Put on your Lederhosen or Dirndls and join us for this great Bavarian Festival… a traditional German “Volksfest” in the heart of Phoenix… a giant “Bier Garten” with buxom beer maidens serving Bavarian brews; Bavarian bands playing lively tunes and leading sing-alongs of old time drinking songs; mouth watering sausages and strudel; Bavarian dancing and lots of good old-fashioned fun at this authentic old-world family event!
Our “Festhallen” is for the young and the “young at heart”, whether you hail from Germany or central Phoenix. Sample traditional German foods and drinks, enjoy the music, and shop from a variety of authentic German products. Bring the family - there are lots of fun kid’s activities for their enjoyment.
Nearly 4,000 visitors enjoyed the event that offered free children's entertainment, the Guggenbach Band from Germany, Lorrelei and Chatzie and the Arizona Accordion Band.
Over 150 energetic volunteers contributed to the event success. Winners of the German Essay contest was Severin Davis. The winner earned a $200 scholarship from AC4GC. You can read the essay on the AC4GC website www.AC4GC.org.
The Henkel display was another popular destination with the many free products.
The Euro Dream display and the cooking demonstration led by Peter Leitner was visited by many guests throughout the day. Peter Leitner did a great job and the food samples he prepared were much appreciated by the audience.
For the second time this year we welcomed the Austrian Society with their own tent and they attracted many interested visitors.
The Swiss Society showed their support with a banner. Hopefully we will see more Germanic organizations promote their clubs in years to come.
Plans will soon be underway for the 5th Old World Oktoberfest and we welcome our members to participate in the planning activities.
Christine Colley
Oktoberfest President
The focus of the Old World Oktoberfest in the park is to celebrate the German heritage and culture with the traditional "Gemuetlichkeit" and entertainment with the Guggenbach Buam and the Guggenbach Trio directly from Germany. Children can experience challenges from bouncing castles, crafts and other amusement in the Children's village. The choices in traditional German Food prepared by our native chef from "Der Kaffeekuchen" in Peoria include the typical Bratwurst and also schnitzels, roasted chicken with all the trimmings such as potato salad, sauerkraut, pretzels and the world famous apfelstrudel. To round out the typical Oktoberfest there will be "Warsteiner, the queen of beers" to quench your thirst.
The Alphorn blowing contest is an all-time favorite with musicians and those with the desire try out this unique instrument. Our raffle will give you the opportunity to win 50% of the dollars raised in AC4GC 50/50 raffle. The famous Polka contest will again award the best dance performance with prizes and so will the Bier Stein holding contest for men and women. The Henkel/Dial Corporation will exhibit products that are designed and marketed right here in the valley. The juried Sauerkraut contest sponsored by GUNDELSHEIM will recognize the creator of the best tasting Sauerkraut. So select your favorite recipe, prepare a batch for the judges and let the competition begin. Please klick the "Sauerkraut Contest" link for details.
We invite sponsors to participate in this festival and use this opportunity to market their products and services to some 3000 potential new customers. Please go to the "sponsor link" for details.
More than 150 volunteers helped make last year's event a great success. If you would like to be involved, please klick the sponsor link for details.
The organizer of the "Old World" Phoenix Oktoberfest is the Arizona Center for Germanic Cultures, Inc. AC4GC, a 501(c)3 not for profit corporation founded in 2005 and representing people of Germanic roots, mostly from German speaking countries such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland. All proceeds from the event will be used to advance the plan to establish a Germanic Cultural Center of Heritage and Innovation which will showcase how Germanic people have influenced the American fabric of life.
Welcome to the 2009 Old World Phoenix Oktoberfest. Entrance is $5 per adult and children under 12 are free.
Best Regards

A Word From the President
Just the word OKTOBERFEST evokes pictures of Germany with lots of family fun, bratwurst and—yes—beer!
Today we invite you to join in the activities, listening to the best oompah-pah music imported from Germany for the occasion and reveling in the traditions and culture of the Germanic people. This is as close as it gets to the real thing, on the meadow (“Wies’n”) with real German beer fresh from the keg (“O’zapft is”). Sit back, listen to the music and enjoy the typical food and libations from Germany.
Welcome to the PHOENIX OKTOBERFEST!
